Renfrew plays his way into PGA Tour season-opener

Victoria’s Cory Renfrew fired a seven-under 65 at the Bayonet Course in Seaside, Calif., to win a Monday qualifier and gain entry into the 2015-16 season-opening event on the PGA Tour. Renfrew had eight birdies and just one bogey in his round. He won the qualifier by four shots. Victoria’s Cory Renfrew to tee it up with PGA’s best

It was just last week that Victoria’s Cory Renfrew fired out an Instagram picture on his Twitter account, a worm’s-eye view of him taking a rip at his golf ball, sun gleaming in the Arizona backdrop. “Just a little stadium course action tonight before sunset. Hopefully I’ll get to play it again when the crowds are out at #WMPhxOpen #AZlivin #lifeisgood,” read the tweet.

Cory Renfrew was breathing in some rarefied air in the desert on Tuesday. The Victoria golfer turned in the All-American Golf Tour’s first round of 59, recording the elusive mark that has only been done five times in official events on the prestigious PGA Tour and three times on the fledgling Web.com Tour, when it was previously known as the Nationwide and Nike Tours.

Victoria’s Cory Renfrew impresses in rookie season

There’s more than a $24,000 first-place cheque on the line at this week’s Canadian Tour stop in Winnipeg. Golf Canada will hand out two exemptions to the RBC Canadian Open after this week’s $150,000 Players Cup event. Those two spots will go to the top two players on the Canadian Tour’s money list.
